Chassis/Wagons

Rolling stock needs a chassis.

Here is the story behind ours.

Our first chassis were etched, occasionally from brass but usually (as now) from nickel-silver. This went through various revisions and became the ‘versatile’ chassis seen below. With its flat unobstructed deck it is good for adding chocks for cable drums or vehicles, or pockets to locate containers. It will also take adaptor plates for Hornby-style bodies including Wessex.

Existing stock will often be used in this way but will give way in time to our latest type, laser-cut steel with etched N/S detail.

Price, painted black with plastic wheels, brake levers and couplings of choice

                                                                                                  £18.15

Adaptors fitted to take bodies to Hornby dimensions - add          £ 2.00

The laser/etch version. Laser-cut ‘Zintec’ (mild steel with a protective zinc coating) is used for the deck, solebars and buffer beam. The latter, unlike the etched chassis, are a single fold, i.e. not folded under. They are however thoroughly de-burred to give a smooth edge. The W-irons and springs are etched to provide detail.

Please note - applies to all products where relevant.

Chassis are spray-painted with a black acrylic and baked to give a good durable finish.

At the price quoted you can specify drop-link couplings or Hornby-compatible auto-couplings of our own design; replica Mãrklin autos; or our version of the JeP ‘symmetrical’ auto. Drop-link couplings can be fiddly but have a degree of compatibility otherwise lacking between rival makes.

Stainless steel levers (in imitation of Hornby type 50) are fitted, or on request can be supplied loose for buyer to paint. We no longer offer blackened levers.

You can specify replica tinplate wheels (by Tony Funnell) - add £2.00 per 4-wheel wagon, £4.00 per pair of bogies.
